Assemblage Scuplture
Chapin creates assemblage sculpture by incorporating two dimensional images within assemblage constructions, using found metal findings from typewriters, clocks and other machine parts from the mechanized past as well as natural elements from the surrounding coastal landscape like Horseshoe Crab tails.
The detailed intensity of Chapin’s signature assemblage sculptures explores both elegiac and ironic recollections of the apex of 20th century American power and cultural hegemony as well as a foreshadowing of the tribulations ahead.
